Group 7 left this past Friday. I decided to interview each one of them. I asked them what their high, low, and buffalo, a funny moment, of the week was. During the week, this group was sort of quiet about what they were experiencing, so it was nice to hear from them.
Devin Going into 9th grade High: “CityGate. Playing with the kids and getting to know them.” Low: “It being really hot out.” Buffalo: “n/a” (by the way I don’t believe he didn’t have a buffalo, but we are all too cool for something and apparently he is too cool to share a buffalo;)
Luke Going into 9th grade High: “Playing basketball with kids at CityGate and the other kids there.” Low: “Eating sesame chicken for dinner one night.” Buffalo: “When Alex ate 5 fireballs and was burning his mouth out.”
Alex Going into 9th grade High: “Going to different ethnic restaurants and eating different foods. They surprised me at how good they were. I didn’t expect it.” Low: “Having to walk around for hours in the heat during the plunge.” Buffalo: “When Luke started to cry when he ate 5 fireballs.”
Mark Going into 7th grade High: “Getting to meet all these new people and making new friends.” Low: “Listening to the homeowner seminar thing.” Buffalo: “When I tripped over the ball at CityGate when I was going to get it.”
Rachel Going into 9th grade High: “Meeting new people in the city…like stepping out of my comfort zone so yeah.” Low: “The heat. Probably just how hot it was.” Buffalo: “Playing 4 square at night.”
Maggie Going into 8th grade High: “Being able to play with the kids.” Low: “The heat and listening to the homeownership stuff.” Buffalo: “Rachel and all her jokes and her complaining about her swollen feet.”
Adelyn Going into 8th grade High: “I liked going to the portrait museum during the urban plunge.” Low: “The weather.” Buffalo: “When Maggie punched me with the ball.”
Spencer Sophmore in college High: “Watching our group do a Bible story skit for the kids.” Low: “The 100 degree weather.” Buffalo: “Playing with the kids at CityGate.”
Belinda Grade? “I’m a grandma.” High: “Today, when we were all alone with the CityGate kids and we had a closer relationship with them because of it.” Low: “D.C. traffic and driving.” Buffalo: “Watching the girls try to get a rise out of Spencer.”
I am grateful for this group. They were troopers through the heat and through the incredibly boring homeownership seminar that was given to the elderly at a geriatric center. We spent our time in the city together learning that God calls us to be present with those He puts in our path and to love them well!
